Vomit and Diarrhea

Vomit and Diarrhea

It can be concerning to see your pet vomit or have diarrhea. While it can be something as simple as eating something that doesn't agree with them, it can be as serious as something like chronic kidney disease. If he needs to see a veterinarian near you, and if you live in or near Canyon Lake, CA, you can bring him to us at Not Just 4 Paws Animal Hospital.

When to Bring Him in

It may be a good idea to bring your pet into our animal hospital if he is having trouble breathing or has eaten something that you know is poisonous or that can cause blockages, like a sock or a toy. If your pet seems dehydrated or if there is blood in its stool, it may also be a good idea to visit our office.

Pets may have bouts of diarrhea or vomiting every now and then so its nothing to worry about if it happens once or twice. If it is chronic, as in it is happening all the time or frequently, it may be time for a veterinarian to take a look at the situation.

At the Vet

When you bring your pet to the animal hospital, a vet on our veterinary team may ask you a series of questions. We may want to know if you saw anything unusual before the incidents started. Did your pet eat something new? Did he eat something they shouldn't have? Has he been lethargic? Answering these questions can help pinpoint what is going on.

A vet on our team may also do a physical exam to see if we notice anything that could indicate what happened. We may also have blood drawn to see if there's something going on internally. The results can tell us if your pet needs to be on some sort of medication or some other treatment is necessary.

At Home

Now that you are back from the vet, you can monitor your pet and follow the instructions the vet gave you, if any. You may be asked to have him drink water but not in large quantities, since that might make him vomit. The instructions may vary depending on what we believe is causing your pet’s condition so it's important to follow them if you want to help your pet get better.
